. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Ray Culp yielded only five hits and pitched the Red Sox to a 3-1 victory over the Yankees before an opening-day crowd of 34,517 at Fenway Park in near-freezing weather. Right fielder Reggie Smith helped save the game in the eighth inning. When Horace Clarke singled with the bases loaded, Danny Cater scored from third base, but Smith threw out Jim Lyttle, who also tried to cross the plate from second. [The Sporting News]
