. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The White Sox, who won only one of 21 doubleheaders in 1970, started the season by sweeping a pair from the Athletics. 6-5 and 12-4, to disappoint the Oakland opening-day crowd of 23,823.

In the first game, the White Sox scored the tying and winning runs in the seventh inning on a pinch-single by Rich McKinney and an error by Rick Monday when the ball got past him in center field. Bill Melton, who hit a two-run homer, came back with a grand-slam to lead the attack of the White Sox in the second game. [The Sporting News]
