The Dodgers, who played the first game in their new stadium in 1962, observed the opening of their 10th year in that park with appropriate ceremonies before a crowd of 31,413, but spoiled the occasion by losing to the Padres, 6-3. An error by Dick Allen on a fly ball hit by Dave Campbell to left field opened the gates for three unearned runs in the first inning.
