Sparked by Ray Culp, who batted better than he pitched, the Red Sox defeated the Senators, 10-7. A single by Culp with the bases loaded drove in the first two of six runs by the Red Sox in a seventh-inning uprising. Rico Petrocelli capped the stanza with a homer.

Billy Conigliaro homered and Culp contributed another single and scored in the eighth when the Red Sox added three runs for their winning margin. Culp, who gave up 15 hits, was knocked out in the ninth as the Senators rallied for five runs. Ken Tatum struck out Toby Harrah to end the game. [The Sporting News]
