Duane Josephson and Carl Yastrzemski clouted homers off Denny McLain to help the Red Sox defeat the Senators, 5-3. Josephson connected with a man on base in the second and Yastrzemski added a solo swat in the third.

A single by George Scott, double by Josephson and sacrifice fly by Billy Conigliaro produced another marker in the fourth, and the final Red Sox run crossed the plate on a balk by McLain in the fifth. [The Sporting News]
