The Astros exploded for five runs with two out in the ninth inning and defeated the Cardinals, 8-4, in a "Businessmen's Special" game which started at 12:30 p.m. on a rainy day and drew only 5,605, the smallest crowd in the history of Busch Memorial Stadium.

In the ninth, after three walks loaded the bases, the Cardinals called on southpaw George Brunet to face two lefthanded hitters, Joe Morgan and Norm Miller, but the move failed when Morgan singled for two runs and Miller homered for three more. [The Sporting News]
