Jim Northrup, who homered with two men on base in the fifth inning, broke a 6-6 tie with a run-scoring single in the ninth to give the Tigers a 7-6 victory over the Orioles. Bill Freehan also homered for the Tigers, who built up a 6-0 lead before the Orioles rallied with the aid of a three-run double by Paul Blair. In the ninth, Dick McAuliffe walked, advanced to second after a long fly by Al Kaline and crossed the plate on Northrup's single. [The Sporting News]
