Two homers, one by Pete Rose in the first inning and the other by Johnny Bench with a man on base in the seventh, powered the Reds to a 3-2 victory over the Mets. Wayne Granger, who had lost three straight relief appearances, gained the decision with help from Clay Carroll, who snuffed out a Mets' threat with two men on base and none out in the ninth inning.
