The tremendous relief pitching of Moe Drabowsky saved Reggie Cleveland's first major league victory as the Cardinals defeated Juan Marichal, 2-1, to snap the Giants' nine-game winning streak. In the ninth inning, Chris Speier singled and Willie Mays and Dick Dietz walked to load the bases with one away, but Drabowsky stepped into the hot spot and struck out both George Foster and Fran Healy.
