Tom Seaver extended his scoreless pitching streak to 26 innings, setting a Mets' club record, but the ace righthander needed the help of Tug McGraw before beating the Reds. 5-2. Seaver's cipher skein was snapped in the seventh when the Reds scored on a walk to Johnny Bench and a double by Willie Smith. The Reds added their other run in the eighth, forcing Seaver's departure, but McGraw, relieving with one out and runners on first and third, induced Bill Plummer to ground into a DP.
