Dick Green, who hit a three-run homer in the previous night's victory, smashed a grand slam as the Athletics extended their winning streak to seven games by defeating the Tigers, 5-4. Joe Coleman, who started for the Tigers, was removed in the sixth inning after issuing two passes. Tom Timmermann loaded the bases with another walk and then was the victim of Green's jackpot wallop.

Catfish Hunter, who rapped three hits to go along with his pitching, kept the inning going with a single and, after a sacrifice, scored what proved to be the winning run on a single by Reggie Jackson. Norm Cash hit the 300th homer of his major league career for the Tigers. [The Sporting News]
