After failing three times to hold a three-run lead, including once in the 10th inning, the Twins broke away with three runs in the 11th to gain an 11-8 victory over the Yankees, who left 20 men on base during the game. The Twins took an 8-5 lead in the 10th, scoring on a wild pitch by Mike Kekich and a double by Leo Cardenas, but the Yankees rallied in their half with a homer by Roy White and a two-run single by Gene Michael.

However, in the 11th, the Twins loaded the bases on walks to Cesar Tovar and Tony Oliva, around an error by Bill Burbach on a bunt by Rod Carew. Harmon Killebrew singled, driving in two runs, and the third tally counted on a sacrifice fly by Rick Renick. [The Sporting News]
