Tommie Agee hit the first grand-slam homer of his major league career, but the blow came too late to keep the Mets from losing to the Cubs, 7-5. Milt Pappas, who started for the Cubs, issued three passes before serving the gopher pitch to Agee in the seventh inning. Earl Stephenson relieved and checked the Mets on one hit in the last 2 1/3 innings. Ron Santo hit a two-run homer for the Cubs and also scored twice after drawing walks. [The Sporting News]
