Normally used as a reliever, Ron Bryant stepped into the injured Frank Reberger's place in the Giants' rotation and pitched a three-hitter to beat the Pirates, 2-0, for his first major league shutout. Dick Dietz singled and scored the first run on a triple by Ken Henderson in the fourth inning. Singles by Tito Fuentes and Willie McCovey and a double by Dietz added a tally in the fifth.
