Don Gullett pitched his first major league shutout and beat the Dodgers, 2-0, to give the Reds a split of a doubleheader. The Dodgers, who bunched four of their seven hits for all their runs in the fourth inning, won the opening game, 4-2, behind the five-hit hurling of Bill Singer.

In the nightcap, Tommy Helms singled with the bases loaded in the second inning for the Reds' first run and Tony Perez added other tally with a homer in the sixth. The Reds ended a four-game losing streak while the Dodgers were stopped on their string of six victories. [The Sporting News]
