Joe Torre, who had been collared in four previous trips, came through with a bases-loaded single in the ninth inning, hitting safely in his 19th straight game, to climax a rally by the Cardinals in their 5-4 victory over the Phillies. The Cardinals, who were losing, 4-2, started the comeback with a run on a walk to Bob Burda and singles by Ted Sizemore and Joe Hague. Lou Brock forced Hague, Sizemore scoring.
