After being shut out for eight innings by Ray Lamb, the Angels rallied for two runs in the ninth and defeated the Indians, 2-1. Lamb, making his first major league start, was lifted when Alex Johnson singled with one away. Camilo Pascual relieved and was tagged for a double by Tony Conigliaro.

Steve Mingori took over and walked Jim Fregosi intentionally. Chuck Machemehl stepped in as the Indians' fourth pitcher of the inning and was unable to stop the Angels, who got the tying run on a sacrifice fly by John Stephenson and the winning run on a single by Ken McMullen. [The Sporting News]
