The clutch pitching of Danny Frisella, who put down a Cardinals' threat in the ninth inning, enabled the Mets to emerge with a 2-1 victory. Jerry Koosman was lifted after Joe Torre singled. When Jose Cardenal bunted, Donn Clendenon threw late to second and both runners were safe. Frisella struck out Bob Burda, but Leron Lee got a scratch infield hit to load the bases. With the game on the line, Frisella retired Ted Sizemore on a pop fly and struck out Joe Hague.
