Hank Aaron smashed the 600th homer of his major league career and his 542nd double, but Willie Mays stole the spotlight by driving in a run with a single in the 10th inning for his fourth hit of the game to send the Giants past the Braves, 6-5. Aaron whacked his homer off Gaylord Perry with a man on base in the third inning to become the third slugger to reach the 600 plateau in homers after Babe Ruth and Willie Mays. Ralph Garr, who had four hits for the Braves, tied the score at 5-5 with a run-scoring single in the seventh. Mays' winning hit in the 10th followed singles by Hal Lanier and Chris Speier.
