The Dodgers played percentages with the wrong batter and paid for their gamble when Willie Stargell smashed a tie with a two-run double to win the game for the Pirates, 7-5. Pinch-hitter Gene Clines walked in the seventh inning and reached second on a balk. The Dodgers then walked Roberto Clemente in order that southpaw Bob O'Brien might pitch to Stargell, who bats lefthanded. Stargell wrecked the move with his two-run double.
