. . . where the 1970s live forever!

After setting up a five-man infield, the Expos gambled on a slow roller by Ron Santo down the third base line in the ninth inning and lost to the Cubs, 3-2. Carl Morton retired 14 straight batters before geting into trouble in the ninth when Don Kessinger beat out an infield hit and Glenn Beckert singled. Morton, trying to pick Kessinger off second, threw wildly for the Expos' first error in seven games and both runners advanced.

After an intentional pass to Billy Williams, manager Gene Mauch removed outfielder Jim Fairey and installed Ron Brand as an extra infielder on the left side of the diamond. Santo topped a pitch and the Expos let the ball roll, hoping it would go foul. Instead, it hit the third base bag for a hit as Kessinger scored. [The Sporting News]
