Homers accounted for all the runs in the game as the Orioles edged the Athletics, 3-2, in a duel between Jim Palmer and Rollie Fingers. Paul Blair was safe on an error in the first inning and Boog Powell followed with a homer for the Orioles' first two runs. A single by Sal Bando and boundary belt by Dave Duncan tied the score in the second. The deadlock persisted until the eighth when Don Buford hit for the circuit to provide the Orioles' winning run.
