Larry Bowa singled with the bases loaded and two out in the eighth inning for his fourth hit of the game and drove in two runs to give the Phillies a 3-2 victory over the Cardinals. Chris Zachary, making his debut with the Cards, gave up a single to Tim McCarver to open the decisive stanza.

Roger Freed sacrificed. After an intentional pass to Don Money, Larry Hisle forced Money. When Zachary walked Ron Stone to load the bases Don Shaw relieved to face Bowa, who hit a soft liner to left for two runs. [The Sporting News]
