After Dave McNally pitched a four-hitter in the opener, Pat Dobson allowed nine hits in the nightcap, but was equally successful, as the Orioles swept a twi-night doubleheader from the Angels, winning each game by the identical score of 3-1. The Orioles gave McNally his edge by breaking a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fifth inning. Don Buford was hit by a pitch, stole second, took third on a groundout and scored on a single by Brooks Robinson. A walk to Merv Rettenmund and single by Davey Johnson added the other run.

Frank Robinson batted in one run and scored another in the nightcap. Dobson, who yielded a homer by Ken McMullen in the eighth inning, bore down to save his victory by retiring Jerry Moses with the bases loaded in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
