After Dave McNally pitched a four-hitter in the opener, Pat Dobson allowed nine hits in the nightcap, but was equally successful, as the Orioles swept a twi-night doubleheader from the Angels, winning each game by the identical score of 3-1. The Orioles gave McNally his edge by breaking a 1-1 tie with two runs in the fifth inning. Don Buford was hit by a pitch, stole second, took third on a groundout and scored on a single by Brooks Robinson. A walk to Merv Rettenmund and single by Davey Johnson added the other run.
