One shortstop homered in the fifth inning and another hit for the circuit with a man on base in the 11th to give the Angels a 4-2 victory over the Indians. Jim Fregosi, who homered in the fifth, became ill and left the game in favor of Syd O'Brien.

After the Indians rallied to tie the score at 2-2, Roger Repoz walked in the 11th and was forced by Ken McMullen before O'Brien smashed the deciding blow off Chuck Machemehl. Sam McDowell, who started for the Indians, struck out five and went over the 2,000 total for his major league career. [The Sporting News]
