Defeated in his first four decisions, Ken Holtzman snapped back with a three-hitter and pitched the Cubs to a 3-0 victory over the Expos. The Cubs started the scoring when Joe Pepitone homered with a man on base in the sixth inning and added their other run on a single by Ron Santo and double by Holtzman in the seventh.
