. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Padres piled up 15 hits, including a three-run homer by Cito Gaston, to win the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, 10-0, but the Reds came back with two round-trippers by Lee May and one by Johnny Bench to take the second game, 7-4. Steve Arlin pitched a shutout for the Padres to record his first victory of the season after four defeats. His complete game was the first of the year by San Diego's staff.

In the nightcap, the Padres were ahead, 3-1, going into the sixth inning when the Reds exploded for four runs, one scoring on Johnny Bench's homer and two on a drive by May, who connected for the circuit again in the seventh inning. [The Sporting News]
