Five players each drove in a run for the Giants to account for a 5-2 victory in the opener of a doubleheader, but the Braves came back to win the nightcap in 10 innings, 6-5. The Giants' hits in the lidlifter included a homer by Willie Mays.

In the second game, Willie McCovey hit a three-run homer and Russ Gibson rapped a two-run triple to produce the Giants' runs. Orlando Cepeda smashed a grand-slam homer for the Braves in the third inning and tied the score at 5-5 with a solo swat in the sixth. Ralph Garr singled in the 10th for his fourth hit of the game.
