Juan Marichal went over the 2,000 mark in strikeouts for his career while pitching the Giants to a 3-2 victory over the Reds. Marichal fanned five and gave up only four hits -- three singles by Pete Rose and a homer by Tony Perez, who connected with Rose on base in the sixth inning.

Willie Mays drove in a run for the Giants with a single in the first. Another scored when Ken Henderson grounded into a double play with the bases loaded in the third.
