A triple by Gene Clines helped the Pirates score four runs in the fifth inning en route to a 10-4 victory over the Padres. Roberto Clemente hit his first homer of the season in the first inning, but the Padres led, 2-1, before the Pirates took command with the aid of two errors by catcher Bob Barton.

Bill Mazeroski and Jackie Hernandez singled and when Barton threw wildly on a bunt by Dock Ellis, Mazeroski scored. Clines then tripled to add two runs and counted himself when Clemente grounded to Dave Campbell and Barton dropped the second baseman's throw to the plate. [The Sporting News]
