The Expos spoiled the major league debut of Ross Grimsley, knocking out the lefthander in the second inning en route to a 9-3 victory over the Reds. Grimsley, recalled from Indianapolis (American Association), yielded five hits and four runs. The Reds used four other pitchers, winding up with Wayne Granger, who was tagged for a three-run homer by John Bateman in the eighth.
