Although yielding only three hits in seven innings, Nolan Ryan was charged with the defeat when the Pirates beat the Mets, 4-2. Ryan was losing, 2-0, when lifted for a pinch-hitter. The Pirates then scored what proved to be their winning runs off Tug McGraw in the eighth on singles by Richie Hebner and Al Oliver, a double by Bob Robertson and a wild pitch. [The Sporting News]
