Jim Lonborg, recalled from Louisville (American Association), pitched three hitless innings in relief and received credit for the victory when the Red Sox defeated the Tigers, 5-3. The Red Sox were losing, 3-2, when Lonborg took over, but Rico Petrocelli promptly swung the tables by hitting a homer after a single by Reggie Smith and double by Carl Yastrzemski in the seventh inning.
