After collecting only one hit in the first seven innings, the Astros rallied to defeat the Padres, 3-2. The Astros caught up with Steve Arlin in the eighth and scored two runs on a double by Denis Menke, infield hit by Jesus Alou, double by Rich Chiles and infield out by Roger Metzger. Bob Miller was the Padres' loser in relief in the ninth on a single by Cesar Cedeno, a wild pitch, pass to Jim Wynn and single by Menke.
