Although the Tigers were held to a total of only three hits, back-to-back homers by Aurelio Rodriguez and Jim Northrup in the first inning enabled them to defeat the Senators, 3-1. Bill Zepp, who pitched 6 2/3 innings, gained his first victory in a Detroit uniform. [The Sporting News]
