Fritz Peterson of Yankees and Sam McDowell of the Indians each pitched his first complete game of the season as the clubs split a doubleheader with New York winning the opener, 6-3, and Cleveland taking the nightcap, 2-1. The Yankees broke a five-game losing streak behind Peterson's five-hit hurling.

The Indians gained their victory with two out in the ninth inning when Eddie Leon singled, Chuck Hinton walked and Gomer Hodge singled as a pinch-hitter for McDowell to decide the duel with Steve Kline. [The Sporting News]
