Ernie McAnally gained his first major league victory when the Expos defeated the Pirates, 4-2. Bob Bailey was the big gun at bat, hitting a homer with two men on base in the eighth inning.

McAnally was working on a two-hit shutout going into the ninth but was lifted after walking Bob Robertson, giving up a single by Milt May and going to a two-ball count on Charlie Sands. Mike Marshall relieved and completed the walk to Sands. Manny Sanguillen singled for one run and another scored on a double play before Vic Davalillo bounced out to end the game. [The Sporting News]
