Sunday May 23, 1971
. . . where the 1970s live forever!
With 53,337 on hand, the Tigers not only beat Denny McLain in the first game of a doubleheader, 5-0, but also shut out the Senators in the second game, 11-0. Mickey Lolich was the winner over McLain, who made his first appearance in Detroit since being traded to Washington. Al Kaline and Norm Cash each tagged their former teammate for a two-run homer.

Cash continued his slugging in the nightcap, smashing two homers, one of them with the bases loaded. Dalton Jones and Willie Horton added other round-trippers in the Tigers' attack. Les Cain, making his first start since being recalled from Toledo (International), pitched six innings before giving way to Joe Niekro, who completed the shutout. [The Sporting News]
