Jim Fregosi, who had been out of action with a bad foot, came off the bench as a pinch-hitter in the 12th inning and delivered a two-run homer to give the Angels a 7-5 victory over the Athletics. The Angels trailed, 5-0, before coming back and finally tying the score on a homer by Jim Spencer in the ninth.

Alex Johnson, back in the Angels' lineup after having been in manager Lefty Phillips' doghouse, singled in the 12th for his third hit of the game. Two were out when Fregosi smashed his homer. [The Sporting News]
