Willie Horton homered in the second inning and then singled in the sixth when the Tigers scored three runs to defeat the Yankees, 4-3. After Bobby Murcer and John Ellis hit back-to-back homers for the Yankees in the fourth, the Tigers counted their runs in the sixth on a pass to Ike Brown and successive singles by Aurelio Rodriguez, Al Kaline, Horton and Bill Freehan.
