A wild pitch by Terry Forster in the 12th inning permitted Paul Blair to score and gave the Orioles a 3-2 victory over the White Sox. Brooks Robinson saved the Orioles from defeat by driving in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the ninth to send the game into overtime. In the 12th, Blair, batting for Dick Hall, walked and advanced on a sacrifice by Don Buford. Davey Johnson grounded to Bill Melton, who missed an attempted tag on Blair and then threw too late to first to get Johnson. Boog Powell walked to load the bases.

With Frank Robinson at bat, Forster threw a pitch into the dirt past catcher Ed Herrmann. The victory moved the Orioles into first place in the East division, four percentage points ahead of the Red Sox. [The Sporting News]
