After building up a 5-0 lead, the Tigers had to battle to gain a 5-4 victory over the Twins. Aurelio Rodriguez and Norm Cash had three hits apiece for the Tigers and Dick McAuliffe smashed a homer. After scoring one run in the sixth, the Twins rallied for three in the eighth, but Fred Scherman replaced Joe Coleman with two out and retired the side on one pitch, getting Steve Braun on a grounder.
