Although offered the day off, Lee May took his place in the Reds' lineup and smashed a three-run homer in the third inning to beat the Cardinals, 4-2. May had been suffering from shoulder and knee miseries. His homer followed a single by Don Gullett and safe bunt by Pete Rose for one of his four hits in four trips. [The Sporting News]
