. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Staked to an early lead, Ken Reynolds gained his first major league victory when the Phillies defeated the Dodgers, 9-4. The rookie lefthander needed help from Woodie Fryman in the eighth inning.

The Phillies struck for four runs in the first on singles by Larry Bowa and Terry Harmon, a wild throw by Claude Osteen on a grounder by Willie Montanez and a homer by Deron Johnson. Byron Browne homered with man on base in the third and Don Money added a circuit clout in the seventh. Bill Russell of the Dodgers struck out five consecutive times to tie a major league record for futility at the plate. [The Sporting News]
