Clay Kirby struck out 13, setting a San Diego club record, and pitched the Padres to a 4-2 victory over the Mets with the support of homers by Ollie Brown and Nate Colbert. Kirby had a shaky beginning, giving up two runs on a round-tripper by Ed Kranepool in the first inning, but the Padres got one run back with doubles by Colbert and Ivan Murrell in the second.
