Although held to only two hits, the Padres were able to beat the Phillies, 2-1. Nate Colbert and Ollie Brown walked in the second inning and, after Ivan Murrell forced Brown, Colbert taking third, Ed Spiezio drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

The Padres' other tally followed in the third when Dave Roberts was safe on an error, Enzo Hernandez sacrificed and Cito Gaston singled. The Phillies collected eight hits off Roberts, but scored only in the eighth on a pass, a single by Terry Harmon and sacrifice fly by Willie Montanez. [The Sporting News]
