The majors' biggest loser, Denny McLain was tagged with his sixth straight defeat and 11th of the season when the Angels beat the Senators, 4-2. The Angels decided the outcome with three runs in the fifth inning.

Jim Fregosi singled, stole second, continued to third when no one covered on catcher Paul Casanova's throw and scored on a sacrifice fly by Tony Gonzalez. Ken McMullen followed with a homer.
