The Reds capped their comeback with a run in the 11th inning to defeat the Cubs, 4-3. The Cubs scored all their runs in the first, two on a homer by Joe Pepitone. The Reds picked up a pair on a round-tripper by Tony Perez in the fourth and tied the score with an unearned run in the eighth.

Pete Rose beat out an infield hit in the 11th. Tommy Helms sacrificed and Lee May singled to drive in the winning run. [The Sporting News]
