Although held to only three hits by Tom Seaver, the Dodgers were able to defeat the Mets' ace, 3-2. Willie Davis homered in the first inning and the Dodgers' two other runs followed in the fourth on a walk to Dick Allen, error by Ken Boswell, Seaver's late throw to third on abunt by Jim Lefebvre, and a double by Bobby Valentine.

The Mets rallied in the seventh with two runs on doubles by Art Shamsky and Jerry Grote and a single by Dave Marshall. When Bud Harrelson also singled, Don Sutton gave way to Jim Brewer, who snuffed out the Mets' hopes by retiring the last seven batters in succession. [The Sporting News]
