A three-run homer by Tony Oliva in the first inning provided the Twins with a 3-1 victory over the Indians. Jim Perry, who pitched a six-hitter for the Twins and struck out 11, was deprived of a shutout when the Indians scored in the ninth on doubles by Chris Chambliss and Ted Uhlaender.
